Seeing an OBGYN for Fertility Issues
Thinking about making an appointment with an OBGYN because you and your partner are trying to get pregnant and so far have not experienced any success? If you have been trying for many months to become pregnant, you may be experiencing one or more fertility issues. The only way to know for sure is by contacting a local OBGYN and making a consultation appointment for more information.
About OBGYNs
Learning more about how an OBGYN can help when you are experiencing fertility issues is a great idea. This type of medical professional is both an obstetrician and a gynecologist. They are specifically educated and trained in helping women stay healthy, especially when it comes to the reproductive system. OBGYNs know how to help couples who are experiencing fertility issues, and are a great source of information.
In order for an OBGYN to understand any potential issues you may have, they will more than likely have you undergo a fertility evaluation. This requires you to fill out medical history forms and undergo blood tests and imaging tests, as well as discuss your pregnancy goals and plan out your future pregnancies.
Seeing an OBGYN for fertility issues
Below are common reasons that a woman may experience fertility issues.
Polycystic ovarian syndrome
Polycystic ovarian syndrome is a condition that occurs when a woman starts experiencing an imbalance between their estrogen and progesterone levels. As time goes on, these imbalanced hormones will support the growth of small cysts on the ovaries. Because the cysts do not cause any pain, women do not even know that they have any cysts that can cause irregular ovulation. Treatment often requires the need to take certain medications to support regular automation.
Fibroids
According to Healthline, fibroids are benign tumors that grow in or on the uterus or womb and may impact fertility and pregnancy chances. Fibroids tend to be common in women during their childbearing years and could potentially increase a woman’s chance for experiencing complications throughout her pregnancy and even during her delivery. Treatment is to remove the fibroids, which can be done by laser or a surgical procedure.
Endometriosis
When a woman is diagnosed with endometriosis, it means that the tissue that lines the uterus is growing in places that it should not, e.g., the ovaries, intestines, etc. When a woman finds out she has endometriosis, she has an increased risk of experiencing pregnancy complications, like pre-eclampsia. While this issue can cause a woman to experience a great deal of pain, there are treatments available. Current treatment includes taking certain medications, as well as living a healthy lifestyle.
